John Fite, Ph.D.

 Couples Therapy: I specialize in helping couples get back on track even after infidelity. I have specialized training in marital issues, addiction, and infidelity recovery as well as years of experience in couples therapy, premarital counseling and divorce recovery. My experience with individuals before marriage, during, and after has given me a valuable perspective on the whole process of being a couple that assists me in planning the recovery process. I practice both traditional and rapid couples therapy techniques and incorporate other approaches such as hypnosis, EMDR and solution-oriented therapy as needed to assist in your recovery. Personally, I have been married for nearly three decades and I have been honored to witness many successful reconciliations in therapy. Threats to a marriage can be life-changing. No one should have to face this alone.

Adolescent/College Age Services: Much of my experience has been with this age group focusing on issues such as addiction, behavioral problems, career guidance, and relationship issues. Often symptoms such as lying, academic failure, alcohol or drug abuse, arrests, cutting, suicidal threats or attempts, depression, and relationship/family issues are the presenting symptoms. Career counseling and assessment question help clients answer the important question "Who am I ?" successfully in the world of work. Many times a young person has gotten off track due to the impact of a destructive relationship or the trauma of a breakup. Counseling is used to help correct unhealthy patterns or simply cope with the aftermath of a relationship falling apart. Sometimes young people are coping with loss including family divorce and this is the focus of counseling.

Addictions Treatment: 

-Assessment/Independent evaluation on a real-time basis of the need for treatment and the right treatment plan whether initiated by the family, court, employer or peer assistance program.

-Treatment-Broad-brush outpatient treatment addressing the many issues affecting treatment outcome. Services following residential treatment are also offered.

-Other Addictions: Many other compulsive behaviors are treated including those involving gambling, sexual behavior, or food. 

Trauma Treatment: Specialized services are offered for the rapid treatment of trauma using experiential techniques that allow for quick progress often without the need to spend long hours discussing past events. Techniques used include EMDR, Brainspotting, and Hypnosis. Other counseling approaches are incorporated as needed.

-Couples in their thirties with small children revovering from infidelity with co-worker.

-Adolescent recently discharged from residential drug treatment trying to get back on track.

-Nurse referred for evaluation by the licensure board or peer assistance program.

-Adult recovering from the trauma of breakup, assault, or serious motor vehicle accident.

-Adult recently downsized seeking to re-evaluate career options.

-Parents seeking help as to what to do about a young person's addiction problem, depression, or destructive relationship.

-Adolescents struggling with cutting or compulsive lying.

-Couple confused as to how to resolve a chronic conflict such as about in-laws, parenting, or money.

-Adult trying to get control of a recurrent anger problem.
