Individual Career Counseling
Career counseling is a highly individualized and supportive process through which you and your
counselor work together to help you define your career/life path. I value this work as my own decision to
complete my doctoral degree was a direct result of my participation in a career counseling process.
Since the time of my internship, counseling clients about the applying the change process to work has
been a significant part of my practice. I will work with you at your own pace, on the parts of the Career
Planning process appropriate to your needs.
An effective career planning process involves:
Self assessment ("Who Am I?"):
Using a variety of worksheets and assessment tools, I help you clarify your skills, values, interests, personality traits,
preferred work environment, desired people, interactions, talents, and career development needs to help you discover
your"Psychological Type."
The Career Assessment Inventory and the Strong Interest Inventory® are two standardized assessment tools that we
sometimes use with clients to help generate career options. Through our discussions, the various worksheets and the
standardized assessment inventories, I will help you identify career options to consider.
Explore career options ("Identify your Passion"):
Learning about your career choices is an important step in this process. You can read about your career ideas in the
Occupational Outlook Handbook and other suggested resources. In addition, I will help you prepare for and conduct
information interviews to learn about occupations of interest to assist you in" Determining Your Passion."
Set goals and take action ("Make It happen!"):
Working together, you will set goals for yourself and then take action to pursue those goals. You may decide to seek
further education, enhance your skills, make changes in your current job, or seek a new job. An action plan will be
constructed with you in preparing for any of these steps. Preparing for job search, planning for networking, writing
your résumé, and practicing and preparing for interviews are all actions that I can help you learn to do.
My phone number is a direct connection to my office. There are no cumbersome voice mail
menus to navigate and I am the only counselor to whom you will be assigned. Usually clients
come for four to six one-hour sessions ($100 per session; $ 50 per career test).
Appointments are arranged at your convenience during morning, daytime, and early evening
hours. Telephone counseling appointments are also available.
I look forward to hearing from you at 615-337-6975.
