Clinical
Coaching & Consultation
My greatest depth of experience as a therapist and psychologist is in the addictions area. I  began my
professional experience in addictions work in 1975 and have continued my involvement throughout my
career. My work experiences include psychological testing for a sixty bed detoxification/rehabilitation
facility, follow-up for program evaluation in the community, participant in the development of a grant on the
neuropsychology of alcoholism, rehabilitation coordinator for an inpatient facility treating adolescents and
adults, outpatient provider of services for multiple offender DUI's, director of an adolescent halfway house,
and provider of outpatient therapy for adolescents, adults, and their families.

During the five years I worked as director of the adult unit at a local hospital, my primary duty was
consultation/intervention with individuals on medical units or the ER as well as those brought by their families,
typically in need of treatment, but often initially unwilling.  In addition, I have provided prevention services and
many professional training sessions. My most unique experience was running an adolescent halfway house for
teenage boys with addictions problems for six years.

In my treatment, I strive to integrate both a scientific approach with the
more practical knowledge I gained from years of working in treatment centers.
I believe I am particularly well suited to help where assessment or treatment
needs to be informed by both areas of expertise.

Some examples from my practice include:

-Helping parents make decisions about treatment needs for a suspected
abuser based upon a neutral, unbiased assessment.
-Helping couples survive the intervention, treatment, and early recovery phases.
-Identifying and addressing multiple diagnoses such as trauma, mood disorders, and Attention
or Learning problems impacting an individual's recovery.
-Helping family members including children recover from the trauma that often precedes
substance abuse treatment.
-Providing assessment and/or treatment for other addictions impacting recovery.
-Specific assessments for impaired professionals such as nurses or lawyers.

These are only a few examples of the many ways addiction recovery can interface with other
conditions.  If I can help you or your loved ones with this very difficult and frightening problem,
please contact me at 615-337-6975.
